Projects Addressing Crime

Matla-a-bana

This NGO provides a range of support services to Police Stations and Police men and Women. The extremely high levels of stress experienced not only by those in uniform, but by there families are addressed with meaningful workshops. Very practical training is also provided in terms of dealing with victims in a sympathetic and humane way. In addition, police stations, should they wish, are equipped with child friendly “trauma rooms” where victims are questioned.

"I am 7 years old. I was hurt by a man who came to our shack. My mother took me to the police station. The police officer was very kind and took me to a room with bright colours. They gave me a “Comfort Pack” with some food and a teddy bear. It was the worst day of my life but they made me feel better. The police phoned my mother to say the man is in jail and now I am safe."
