Staff Working Party in Alex

General

Children in AlexandraOnce a quarter, the staff at Rosebank Union Church have a social event to help boost morale and to foster our team spirit. This last week (Tuesday 17th August), instead of a purely social outing, we had the fantastic opportunity of working alongside Rays of Hope (our church outreach ministry) in some of their projects in Alex.

At 9am, we broke into teams of five or six people, put on our old work-clothes, and headed for the dusty streets of Alexandra (a mere 8km drive from our church). One team helped to paint the walls of a church with Pastor Gerhard using his handyman skills to hang a door; another team painted a room in the house of one of the Rays of Hope "Child-Headed Households"; while other teams did some work at a local creche.

While most of our painting skills are probably not up to scratch, it was an eye-opening experience and a real privilege to help build the reputation of Rays of Hope in Alexandra. Through small efforts like these, it's our prayer that the staff and volunteers of Rays of Hope will continue to earn the right to speak God's word into the lives of the men, women and children of the Alexandra township.

Our challenge to you

The next time you and your company are planning a team-building exercise... why not consider doing something like this! Contact Rays of Hope if you're game!
